Frequently asked questions
What is Pulmonaut?
Pulmonaut is a breathwork app for iPhone, with the feel of a music app. You pick a practice and press play. The app keeps time, on screen and with a voice, over a soundscape you choose. You don't need an account.
Which breathing techniques are in the app?
22 breathscapes, 48 guided sessions, five paths, and three emergency protocols.
- Breathscapes. Practices the app renders live from their timings. Box, Triangle, Coherent, Resonance, Physiological Sigh, 4-7-8, Nadi Shodhana, Surya Bhedana, Chandra Bhedana, and more.
- Guided sessions. Recorded sessions with a voice. 30 sit in three collections, Focus, Restore, and Sleep. Pranayama Ashram adds 10, from Ujjayi to Kapalabhati, and Apnea Lab adds 8.
- Paths. Programs that build one technique chapter by chapter. Box, Pyramid, Resonance, Presence, and Nadi Master.
- Emergency breathwork. Three short protocols, in Explore. Airway Opener, Quick Focus Fix, and Double Sigh.
Is there breath-hold training?
Yes. Explore goes deeper, in two collections and four timers.
- Apnea Lab. Breath-hold training. CO₂ and O₂ tables, One-Breath CO₂, Control Pause, Max Hold, and Empty Lung Hold, with your personal bests. A CO₂ table trains your tolerance for the urge to breathe: the holds stay the same, and the rests get shorter.
- Pranayama Ashram. Yogic breathing. Nadi Shodhana, Surya Bhedana, and Chandra Bhedana, plus 10 guided sessions.
- Timers. Tummo, Max Hold, Control Pause, and Empty Lung Hold, timed, with your personal bests.
Safety: Breath holds: lie down, face up. Never in or near water. Never alone.
Is Pulmonaut free?
Box, Coherent, and 4-7-8 are free. A membership opens everything else.
The app is free to download. Pulmonaut Membership unlocks every breathscape, guided session, path, and lab. There are two plans, Monthly and Yearly, and no free trial. The App Store shows the price in your currency. You can cancel anytime in your Apple account's subscriptions.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. Members can download breathscapes, guided sessions, soundscapes, and the audio in Apnea Lab and Pranayama Ashram. A breathscape downloads with the length, voice, and soundscape you chose. Downloads wait for Wi-Fi unless you change that in Settings.
Does it work with Apple Health?
Yes, once you connect it. Finished sessions are saved to Apple Health as Mindful Minutes. We only write there. We never read your health data.
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature works without one. An optional account, with Apple, Google, or email, keeps your membership across devices.
What happens to my data?
Your practice history, streaks, and personal bests stay on your phone. We use analytics to see which features people use and crash reports to fix bugs, and neither carries your name, email, or health data. The privacy policy has the details.
Which iPhones does it run on?
Any iPhone on iOS 18 or later. The app is in English. There's no Android version.
Is breathwork safe?
For most people, yes. Breath holds carry real risk: lie down, face up. Never in or near water. Never alone. If you have a condition, ask your doctor first.
Slow breathing is gentle. Breath holds and intense practices like Tummo are not: they can cause dizziness, light-headedness, and, in some instances, loss of consciousness.
Safety: Breath holds: lie down, face up. Never in or near water. Never alone.
Don't practice with heart disease, high blood pressure, or arrhythmia. Pulmonaut is a wellness app. It doesn't diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. If you have a heart or lung condition, talk to your doctor before you start.
Is breathwork a form of meditation?
Yes. Instead of trying to quiet your mind, you give it one thing to follow: your breath. That's why many people find it the easiest way in.
